Fly to Johannesburg and then self-drive to Sun City

Sun City Resort is a self-drive destination in the North West province of South Africa. Enjoy a great family holiday or visit nearby game reserves like Pilanesberg and enjoy a safari near Sun City.

There are no direct flights into Sun City, South Africa. Visitors would have to fly to Johannesburg and hire a car there.

Self-drive from OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg

Minimum 3 hours drive (depending on city traffic)

Rent a car at OR Tambo International Airport and then head off to Sun City. Once out of the hectic city traffic of Johannesburg, your self-drive to Sun City will take about 2 hours.

Directions from OR Tambo International Airport:

Take the R21 north to Pretoria/Polokwane and turn on the N4 and follow the highway to Rustenberg. Just after passing Rustenberg turn right onto the R565 to Sun City/Lost City.

Self-drive From Lanseria Airport, Johannesburg

2 hours drive

This option will be the quicker one. Lanseria Airport is outside of Johannesburg (Magaliesberg area). You save a lot of time as you can avoid the traffic on the crowded highways of the City of Gold.

Directions from Lanseria Airport:

Take the N14 to Krugersdorp. Turn right on the R24 to Rustenberg. Turn on the N4 and continue on the R565 to Sun City/Lost City.
