From the Sun City Resort in the North West Province of South Africa, guests can explore the malaria-free Pilanesberg National Park on a Big Five game drive or take a hot air balloon ride over the bushveld. The Sun City Resort stands on the edge of the Pilanesberg National Park. This exciting entertainment complex forms part of the park’s southern border and gives guests the ideal opportunity to see prolific birdlife and game including Elephant, Lion, Buffalo, Rhino (white and black) and even the reclusive Leopard. Also resident are Zebra, Hyena, Giraffe, Hippo and Crocodile. There are day and night drives available into the park.

The Pilanesberg National Park covers and area of 55 000 hectares and has a circular shape which encompasses an ancient volcanic crater. The landscape is wonderfully scenic with a lake at the centre of the extinct volcano surrounded by mountains. The park lies in a transition area between the Kalahari and the Lowveld with both kinds of vegetation present. Sun City guests are collected from the resort for excursions into the park which is a short drive away and returned again at the end of the activity.

The magnificent scenery and wildlife of malaria-free Pilanesberg National Park can be viewed from the air on a fantastic hot balloon ride. This experience is not to be missed - a truly memorable way to spot game and soar over the volcanic landscape. Early morning departures ensure Sun City guests see the beautiful morning skies and wildlife below, moving about in the cooler hours. There is champagne and a delectable breakfast to be enjoyed after the flight.

Meeting and interacting with an African Elephant is a life-changing event. Interactive sessions and Elephant back safaris give guests of Sun City a unique experience, one that will be treasured for a lifetime. Chikwenya, Sharu, Sapi, Mana and Michael meet guests and also take them on fabulous rides through the bushveld, following ancient game trails in the nearby Letsatsing Reserve. Wonderful close range game viewing is possible from the back of the Elephant, as guests are not noticed by resident wildlife.

Hot-air Balloon flights (approx. 4 hours)
The flight is about 60 minutes, followed by champagne and a full breakfast.
